William Packard, Ph.D., one of the core members of the Taunton Community Crisis Intervention Team, has authored a very interesting and detailed book: Intellectual Disability and the Criminal Justice System: Solutions Through Collaboration. In the book, Dr. Packard utilizes his knowledge and expertise developed over his thirty-five year career in the fields of intellectual disability and forensic mental health to address the issues associated with intellectually disabled individuals who have become involved with the criminal justice system.
Dr. Packard discusses the importance of collaborative approaches to the problems and provides a history of CCIT and how it evolved from a grassroots organization to a nationally recognized low cost jail diversion program with the potential for replication.
