Community to Community Mentoring Initiative
The Taunton Community Crisis Intervention Team and The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Massachusetts Criminal Justice Diversion Project have partnered to launch the Community-to-Community Mentoring Initiative which is providing technical assistance to four communities: Belmont, Walpole, Canton, and Plymouth on developing and strengthening working partnerships between law-enforcement, mental health providers, schools, courts, hospitals, and other public and private agencies to promote communication and enhance the responses to individuals experiencing a mental health crisis in their communities. NAMI Project Director, June Binney, and Project Assistant, Katie Hunsader, are collaborating with the Taunton CCIT on this unique endeavor. Melissa Hirschi, a doctoral student in Social Work from Boston University is documenting the process and developing outcome measures to help assess the effectiveness of this initiative which may be utilized in other communities within Massachusetts.
